Sunday Stories – A Children’s Chapel Program
Sundays during the 10am service
Trinity offers a unique program for children from pre-K through 5th grade (and before and beyond those ages if you want!). Sunday Stories is a combination of Children’s Chapel and Sunday School Class all in one fun session held during the 10am service from September through May.
Children and their families begin worship in the church for the opening hymn and prayer, after which the priest will invite the young ones to gather in the rear of the sanctuary with the Sunday Stories adult leaders. The children are led across the driveway to Honyman Hall where their own chapel space is set up in the Hawes Room.
After an opening prayer, the adult leaders share the story of the day’s Gospel lesson with the children. It is the same text that the community is using over in the church, but is told in a way that is accessible to, and enjoyable for, young people. After hearing the day’s story, there is a time to talk about it, act out parts of it, or play a game based on the Biblical lesson. No one is required to sit still, and asking questions is encouraged – this is their time to explore and get to know God.
Following the lesson and activity, the children offer prayers, recite a simple creed, and then conclude their time together. The adult leaders will escort the children back to church where they arrive just in time to exchange the peace and prepare for Eucharist.
